Courmayeur is one of the most famous tourist resorts, both summer and winter, of all the Alps. It is the last town in Val d ‘Aosta (in the North-West of Italy) and is located at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif (the highest mountain in Europe, 4810 m) in a basin where two side valleys converge: Val Ferret and Val Veny.
The ski area therefore develops on two sides, with three starting stations (Courmayeur, Dolonne and Entreves) for a total of about 100 km of slopes, both traditional and free-ride. Throughout the winter season, the Courmayeur cable car runs until midnight, so you can stop, after skiing, for an aperitif or dinner at high altitude.
The main attraction is Mont Blanc: with the Skyway, a futuristic cable car equipped with 360 degree rotating cabins, it starts from 1300 m at Courmayeur to reach the Pavillon station (2173 m) and finally Punta Helbronner (3466 m), where, from a panoramic terrace, you can admire a wonderful panorama that includes the highest peaks in the area: Cervino, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso.
Courmayeur can be easily reached from Turin Airport, with an hour and thirty minute journey on the A5 Aosta Valley motorway.
