Sestriere is located in the province of Turin, on top of the homonymous hill that joins two valleys: Susa and Chisone. It is the highest town with a city Hall in Italy (2035 m). It was founded by Giovanni Agnelli (founder of Fiat) starting from 1930; year in which he bought the land and started the construction of two hotels (known as “the towers”) and three cable cars on three mountains: Sises, Banchetta and Fraiteve.
From those days on, Sestriere has always expanded to become one of the most famous ski resorts in Europe. It is part of the Via Lattea ski area (Milky Way), together with Claviere, Cesana, San Sicario, Oulx, Sauze d’ Oulx and Pragelato in Italy, plus Montgenevre in France. The Milky Way offers 249 tracks and 70 ski lifts: long and sunny slopes from which you can admire the grandeur and splendor of the Alps.
The highest point accessible by ski is the summit of Monte Motta (2800 m)
In Sestriere there are beautiful hotels and restaurants, both in the village and at high altitude, where you can taste local delis and the best Italian wines. Among the winter activities, besides alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding, it is possible to skate on ice, go for walks in the snow with “ciaspole” (snowshoeing), try sled dogs or rent a snowmobile. In summer the main activities are golf and trekking.
Sestriere is easily reached from Turin airport (115 km), you can take either the A32 del Frejus motorway or the Statale 23 Pinerolo – Sestriere (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes journey).
With Turin Ski Transfer you can book your transfer from Turin or from Milan airports (Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo Orio al Serio) at very affordable prices.
